A series of calls keep the volunteer crew of the Sheerness RNLI lifeboat station

Lifeboats News Release

The crew of both the Sheerness lifeboats were called to attend three separate incidents on Saturday 11 June

The crew of the inshore lifeboat Eleanor were called at 9.00am to assist a yacht, the Kipictati,that was in trouble off the Cant Buoy approximately one mile off Sheerness having reportedly lost its rudder.

The casualty vessel with one male on board was quickly located, a tow line was attached and the rudderless vessel was towed to the Queenborough all tide landing and secured at 10.50 am.

The second call came at 5.06pm when the crew of the all weather lifeboat George and Ivy Swanson were called to assist a 17 foot angling boat Barracuda that had reportedly suffered engine failure.

The initial location of the craft with three males on board was given as being in the area of the North Oase buoy some eight miles from Sheerness in the Thames estuary.

Having arrived at the given position the lifeboat crew could find no sign of the angling boat and so commenced a search of the area heading further North and over to the Essex coast.

The craft was found in the area of the South Shoebury Buoy and was proceeding under its own power albeit with an intermittent engine fault.

The ALB escorted the vessel safely back to its home base in Rays Creek,Essex.

Sheerness 2nd coxswain Paul Jarvis said : ‘ not only did the craft have engine problems its radio had also broken and so the anglers were unable to update us to their position’.

The ALB returned to station at 6.45 pm

The third call came at 8.01pm when the crew of the ILB were called to reports of a vulnerable person in an unsafe position on Rochester Bridge.

The crew were stood down whilst on route to Rochester at 8.18pm when they were informed that the person was now safe and away from danger.

The ILB was back on station and ready for service at 8.38pm
