Dungeness RNLI lifeboat tasked to a RIB taking in water

Lifeboats News Release

At 11.49pm on Saturday 28 May, Dover Coastguard paged Dungeness lifeboat to help in a multi-ship search to reports of a RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) taking in water five miles east, northeast of the station.

Coxswain Stuart Adams in command of the Shannon class lifeboat 13-02 ‘The  Morrell’ and his volunteer crew set up a box search of the area together with Littlestone RNLI lifeboat who was also requested to launch.

Search and rescue helicopter 163, stationed at Lydd located the casualty with nineteen persons on board and both RNLI lifeboats stood by until they were safely transferred to a Border Agency vessel.

The Dungeness RNLI lifeboat was requested to tow the empty RIB to Dover and returned to Dungeness, refuelled and was ready for service by 6.15am on Sunday 29 May.
