Ramsgate lifeboat launches in storm

Lifeboats News Release

Ramsgate RNLI's all weather Trent class lifeboat launched at 2.15am today at the request of the UK Coastguard to investigate a report from a member of the public of a flashing light at sea north of Deal.

In storm force 10 winds and rough seas arriving on scene the volunteer lifeboat crew set up a search, guided by the Coastguard local rescue team ashore, and quickly spotted a small light. Once along side it was found to be a light usually connected to a lifebuoy which was quickly retrieved and de-activated. The RNLI lifeboat crew was then tasked by the UK Coastguard to search the area down to Deal Pier for any debris or signs of a boat in difficulty.

After a thorough search of the area with nothing found the lifeboat was stood down by the UK Coastguard and returned to station soon after 4.00am.
