North Berwick launch to help boat with rope around the propeller

Lifeboats News Release

North Berwick (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) Lifeboat, Evelyn M with a volunteer crew of three people on board launched (Wednesday 28 September) at 4.10pm.

A request had been received from local boat Braveheart after the propeller had become entangled with a piece of rope.

The lifeboat was very quickly on scene. The vessel was still capable of making at reduced speed, North Berwick Lifeboat escorted them back to North Berwick harbour and stood by while it entered the harbour and tied up.

The skipper had requested the assistance of the RNLI as he was aware that although he was still able to make progress with his vessel and steer it, that if the rope moved this could change. His passengers’ safety was his priority.

North Berwick Lifeboat Helm Rhona Meikle said: ‘ The skipper made the correct decision to contact the coastguard and request our assistance at the earliest opportunity. As a result we were at close hand should he have required any assistance. We were on scene quickly and all involved were safely back on dry land within a short space of time.”
