A lifelong sailor donates £5,000 to Scarborough RNLI

Lifeboats News Release

Richard Plowright chose the RNLI for his donation because of his long association with sailing and the east coast.

‘The charity is close to his heart’, said son-in-law Matthew King.

‘Unfortunately, Richard has been quite poorly recently and has received a terminal diagnosis.  He has been sailing in Scarborough for many years as a member of the yacht club and as part of a four-man Hunter 707 team’, Matthew added.

Richard and three generations of his family travelled to Scarborough from their Leeds homes to make the donation.

They were met by volunteer crew members Dave Jackson, Pete Billingsley, Rudi Barman, Jason Hedges, Sam Usher and Matt Jennings, who showed them round the Mersey and Shannon lifeboats.

The Mersey is the all-weather lifeboat being used in Scarborough at the moment. The Shannon is being used by local RNLI personnel for exercises and familiarisation, in the run-up to receiving their own Shannon on 27 November.
