Wicklow RNLI assists two sailors during early morning call out

Lifeboats News Release

Wicklow RNLI's all-weather lifeboat launched at 5.32am this morning (Wednesday 7 September) after the Coast Guard received a call for assistance from a yacht in difficulties off the Wicklow Coast.

The lifeboat crew located the vessel in fog, eight miles east of Wicklow harbour at 6.10am. Conditions in the area were wind direction, southwest force three with moderate sea. Visibility was poor due to fog.

The 10 metre British ketch with two people on board was on passage from Cornwall to Scotland, when the vessel developed steering problems and they were having difficulty maintaining their course.

The yacht was taken in tow back to Wicklow harbour and was secured safely alongside the South quay at 7.45am.
