Fab fishy fundraiser for RNLI at top York restaurant Star Inn the City

It’s the plaice to be on Wednesday 12 October – the Star Inn the City, York, is supporting the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s Fish Supper fundraising campaign with a special fishy dinner.

The delicious three course Star Inn the City menu has been created by head chef Matthew Hunter and inspired by Whitby on the Yorkshire coast, home town of Michelin star chef and owner Andrew Pern, who will host the event. 

People around the country are organising Fish Supper events to raise funds for the lifesaving charity and in honour of lifeboat crew who often miss meal times and special occasions with loved ones to save lives at sea.

Matthew said: ‘We are delighted to be able to support the RNLI with our special Star Inn the City Fish Supper. The waters off the Yorkshire coast produce some wonderful sea food and the fishermen who bring their catches home every day for restaurants like ours are often dependent on volunteer RNLI crews for their safety.’ 

The event is supported by Welcome to Yorkshire, who chose the RNLI as their charity partner for this year’s Tour de Yorkshire.

Sir Gary Verity, CEO of Welcome to Yorkshire, said:  ‘The RNLI Fish Supper at the Star Inn the City will be an amazing evening which will help to raise yet more vital funds for such an essential charity that I was extremely proud to work alongside during the Tour de Yorkshire.
 
‘If people cannot make the event in York then I would strongly encourage them to host their own fish supper to help support the RNLI's lifesaving work. The county really got behind the charity during this year's race and I am sure that once again, Yorkshire will rally behind such a great cause.’

The RNLI is encouraging people across the UK and the Republic of Ireland to host a fish-themed dinner between 14–16 October. It’s a great opportunity to get together with family and friends to enjoy anything from fish finger sandwiches to a fancy lobster thermidor. Guests are invited to make a donation to the RNLI, whilst the host cooks up a storm. All proceeds from Fish Supper will help provide the best equipment and training for RNLI volunteers.

Tickets for the Star Inn the City Fish Supper are £50 per head, including a three course Michelin star inspired meal, welcome drink, half a bottle of wine and a £10 donation to the RNLI. To book, please email: amy_casbolt@rnli.org.uk
