Key stage 2 pupils raised the money by holding non-uniform days and filled a lifeboat picture with coins.

Teacher Nigel Henderson said: 'The pupils chose the RNLI charity because the lifeboat station is so close to us and some of the pupils have parents and relatives who are volunteer crew members.'

RNLI Lifeboat Visits Officer and volunteer crew member Steve Pounder who also gave a sea safety talk at the school said: 'This wonderful donation from the St Helens school pupils will help go toward saving lives at sea and pay for kit for the volunteers at the Ferry Road lifeboat station.'
