The inshore lifeboat was called into action yesterday afternoon (25 July) when personnel at the lifeboat station spotted a small boat with two persons on board in difficulty on the north side, and close to the harbour arm.

The craft had anchored to the west of the concrete groyne but drifted to the east in confused sea conditions with the anchor line fouled on the groyne itself. UK Coastguard were informed of the situation and the inshore lifeboat was tasked to assist. The lifeboat crew were able to cut the anchor line and take the boat in tow back to the safety of Margate harbour. There were no injuries reported with the two occupants.
