Berwick-upon-Tweed RNLI assist Emergency Services at Holy Island

Lifeboats News Release

Berwick RNLI launched their all-weather lifeboat on 22 September at 2.20am to assist the North East Ambulance service after receiving a launch request from UK Coastguard.

The North East Ambulance service had requested the service of Berwick RNLI to transport them to Holy Island as the causeway was closed due to the tide being in.

The volunteer crew took two paramedics over to the Island where they were met by Holy Island Coastguard.

After the casualty had been assessed, Berwick RNLI took one of the Paramedics back by lifeboat to collect an ambulance, the ambulance returned to the Island by road as the causeway was now open, the casualty was then transferred to hospital.

RNLI Coxswain Ally Laing said: 'This shout showed excellent cooperation between multi-agency emergency services to provide 24 hour cover to Holy Island when tidal restrictions are in place.'

Berwick RNLI hope the casualty is making a full recovery.
