Borth RNLI lifeboat rescues a lady swimming off Ynyslas.
At 11:10am on Friday 2 August the volunteers from Borth RNLI lifeboat were called upon to rescue a lady in difficulty whilst swimming in the sea at Ynyslas.
A member of the public spotted the swimmer using binoculars whilst searching for Dolphins near Ynyslas Turn Car Park. He immediately dialled 999 and informed the HM Coastguard at Milford Haven.
Milford Haven Coastguard asked Borth RNLI to launch the inshore lifeboat to assist. The volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew made their way to the area and with the assistance of the member of the public and Borth Coastguard Rescue Team, the RNLI lifeboat was directed to the casualty. The casualty was about half a mile from shore and was in great difficulty. The crew were told that she had been in the water for nearly two hours.
When the lifeboat got to her she was floating on her back and unable to help herself. Two of the crew grabbed the casualty and brought her on board the lifeboat. Once on board they wrapped her in a survival blanket and administered first aid.
The Coastguard helicopter arrived on scene shortly after she was rescued and it was decided that the best action would be for the lifeboat to bring her ashore near Ynyslas Turn Car Park where, with the assistance of the Borth coastguard rescue team she could be transferred to the coastguard helicopter, which had landed on the Golf Course, to be taken to Bronglais hospital to be checked out.
