Heading for Carlingford Lough

The boat had broken down in the busy sea lane of Carlingford Lough and could have been in some danger from incoming and outgoing shipping. Weather conditions were good and when the lifeboat quickly arrived on scene the crew found that the speedboat engine had been restarted.

Checking that the skipper was fine the Kilkeel RNLI crew waited to ensure there were no further problems and then escorted the skipper back to his mooring in Greencastle.

Jason Nugent, Kilkeel RNLI crew member said: ‘At all times respect the water. Regularly check your vessel and engine and ensure you have enough fuel for your trip. Always wear a lifejacket, carry a means of communication and let someone know where you are going and when you are expected back. And should you get into difficulty or see anyone in trouble at sea, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.’
