Morecambe RNLI volunteers called out on service
Morecambe RNLI volunteer crew were requested to launch the inshore lifeboat at 11am yesterday morning (Thursday) to assist a struggling fishing boat.
The volunteer crew were requested to launch by HM Coastguard yesterday morning to assist a nine-ton fishing boat which was struggling after suffering with a broken prop shaft and had anchored up.
Lifeboat Operations Manager Steve Wilson authorised the launch. The RNLI crew assembled under the Helm of Chris Buchannon and made their way on the inshore lifeboat to assist. A dynamic risk assessment was undertaken, and a tow was offered. The fisherman declined and a fellow friend of his assisted by towing him back to his mooring. Conditions were becoming challenging at times with the tide turning and increasing wind speeds.
As we approach the festive season volunteer lifeboat crews across the country remain resilient at all times, ready to respond when the call comes for help.
Morecambe RNLI are looking to recruit a volunteer Deputy Launch Authority which will support the Lifeboat Operations Manager. The full details can be found on the link here:
